Media these days is all about the money, along with a lot of other things that is. If it takes someone thousands of dollars to promote their own product or company, they will do it because by promoting their product it will make their sales go up and they will make more money.
The fact that media is so popular these days, its awesome but it can also be very scary. In todays day in age, we depend on media so much to keep us busy, the keep up entertained. We sit behind a screen and waste hours on end on social media. As dangerous as the media is, it is a create thing to have. We find out stuff that is going on around the world, we understand what is happening around us but it isn't all fun and games sometimes. People make fake news, they say things online and are not even relevant to the stuff thats going on. It is beautiful but dangerous at the same time.
Sometimes, we don't always use the media to the best of our abilities. We misuses it, abuse it and sometimes we just rely on it so much, we don't even realize what were doing. For example, we all have social media and cell phones. People abuse the the fact that all have phones by cyberbullying and calling people down through the use of their phones. Behind screens, people have very strong and their is no tearing them down but in person, they are not that strong willed.

ReplyDeleteGreat points. I think there is something to be said about disengaging from media. Finding time to do activities that are "disconnected" from the world of media, whether it be television, Internet, gaming, etc. I really like your observation on fake news being an example of when media can be dangerous. The misinformation and misleading information that we are feed, particularly online, is very disturbing. It is certainly one example of why it is so important to grow and develop strong media literacy skills, as well as critical thinking skills.
